NFFTA AT CLERMONT-FERRAND CANADIAN RETROSPECTIVE 2019

Kyle Thomas’ 2011 short film Not Far From The Abattoir has been selected for a retrospective screening of important Canadian works at the world’s most prestigious short film festival in Clermont-Ferrand, France in February 2019.

A classic from the early days of North Country Cinema, Not Far From The Abattoir was written and directed by Kyle Thomas, produced by Thomas and Cameron Macgowan, with cinematography by Alexander Carson. The project also features collaborations with many NCC regulars, including Sara Corry as production manager, Bobby Vanonen as production designer, and Alex Mitchell as sound recordist. We’re honoured to have this film featured at Clermont-Ferrand alongside so many great works by visionary Canadian filmmakers from across the country on a major international stage.

KYLE THOMAS FOR HUFFINGTON POST AT CANNES 2013!

Kyle Thomas has spent the past week in Cannes in support of his new short film The Post (2013), screening at Telefilm Canada’s Not Short on Talent Program. He has also been journaling for the Huffington Post, writing dispatches from the perspective of an emerging Canadian filmmaker navigating the world’s biggest film festival, market, and media circus. We were thrilled to have been asked by the Huffington Post to contribute content surrounding Cannes 2013, and we are pleased to share Kyle’s three entries here:

NFFTA AT OFF-COURTS TROUVILLE

Following its European premiere at Cannes 2012, Kyle’s film Not Fat From The Abattoir (2011) returns to France as part of the Off-Courts Trouville Film Festival’s showcase of Canadian cinema. NFFTA will be presented in the “Grand Canada” program, Thursday Sept 6 at 1:00pm local time. See the trailer here:

NORTH COUNTRY CINEMA GOES TO CANNES!

We’re very excited to announce that Telefilm Canada will be presenting BOTH of North Country Cinema’s 2011 films at Cannes this year. Alexander Carson’s “We Refuse To Be Cold” and Kyle Thomas’ Not Far From The Abattoir have both been selected for the Not Short On Talent section of Telefilm’s Perspective Canada screenings on May 22 and May 23 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.

Kyle, Sandy, and Cameron Macgowan will all be traveling to the south of France to proudly rep these films at the world’s most important film event, and to take in some of what the coming year holds for international cinema. This will be a great opportunity for North Country Cinema to share our work with new audiences, and to make connections within the international film community that will help us grow in the future.
